Chandigarh ; Supreme Court has cleared out the name of Punjab and Haryana High Court judge AK Mittal to be appointed as CHief Justice of Meghalya High Court. As Apex Court’s bench comprising the Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi, Justice SA Bobde and Justice NV Narvana saying that Meghalya High Court’s Chief Justice seat is going to be vacant soon as the Justice MY Mir going to retire soon. There for appointment to office needed soon.
Justice AK Mittal working from his elevation, which makes him the senior most judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court. “Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium finds Justice AK Mittal suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly,” the note added.
It is stated that the Collegium is conscious of the fact that consequent upon the proposed appointment there would be two Chief Justice from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court is serving two different states Punjab and Haryana. It is third largest High Court in country , with a sanctioned strength of 85 judges.
