Chandigarh: Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Karuna Raju said as per data record Punjab has 5916 voting candidates who are more than the age of 100 years. The data also has 10600 names that are being checked for authenticity under the head “Logical Errors” compiled by the Election Registration Office (ERO).
Official said that there is mismatch in the photo and name. Officer said there is one turbaned voter Rupinbder Singh, who’s name shows as Rupinder Kaur in computer data. He also says, ” There are some voters on computer list which shows the age less than 18 years and some elderly person with the age of two or three years. It is clearly digit missing error, which happened during the entry of data”.
CEO says data with the logical error will be scrutinized, after the correction amended data will be uploaded with in week. A voter name Govind Ram Khraiti died at the 101 some time back. Curiously, he is still a resident of Gobindgarh, Jalandhar and showing in the list of voters. A resident of Arjun Nagar in Jalandhar, Rajesh Rani Khullar, says: “My 103-year-old father-in-law Jiwan Das Khullar will not be able to cast his vote because he is immobile. He is hard of hearing too. Senior citizens like him must be allowed to vote online.” Charan Kaur of 100 years age barely audible, residing in Model Town of Patiala. She syas ” I will cast my vote definitly”.
Ludhiana district with 863 centenarians tops the chart followed by Amritsar district (558) and Hoshiarpur 449. The Ludhiana (East) Assembly seat has 273 centenarians, Khem Karan 212, Rajasansi 123, Patti 117 and Zira 116.
