High Court request to centre to ban Tik Tok

Tamil Nadu high court request the centre to ban the mobile base Chinese application Tik Tok as it is encouraging pornography. Tik Tok application created by Beijing Bytedance Technology Co, allows the user to create its video with special effects.

A Madurai-based senior lawyer-cum-social activist, Muthu Kumar, filed a petition at the Madras High court on Wednesday saying that children who use TikTok were more exposed to the sexual predators. Lawyer also stated that it is degrading Indian culture, reason of suicide and child abuse, are the main cause to be banned. Moreover, IT minister of Tamil Nadu described some of its more suggestive dance content as “unbearable”and has called for the app to be banned.

The Madras High court judges, Justices Justices N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar, have directed the central government to respond to the request before April 16.

Commenting on this issue, TikTok spokesman said that the company was committed to abiding by local laws. It was awaiting a copy of the court’s order, following which they would decide the next step towards it.
